PROJECT: UTILITY LIGHTING CONTROL PROGRAM (ROAM)
CLIENT: CANOOCHEE EMC, REIDSVILLE, GA
Canoochee EMC is the privatization contractor for Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield. Their goal was to reduce energy consumption by utilizing a ROAM utility lighting control system.
McLean Engineering consulted with the utility to develop an energy efficiency project in motor pools, parking lots and area lighting around other facilities. Using ROAM equipment (www.roamservices.net), the plan included installing communications nodes (pictured top) on street lights as well as a communications gateway (pictured below) for monitoring and energy control purposes.
- Installed 1,482 nodes, each installed on a street light
- Nodes will result in an energy savings of 1.6 million kWh per year
- Length of time for payback is 4 1/2 years
