Amicalola EMC Selects McLean Engineering for Construction Work Plan and Sectionalizing Study

Amicalola Electric Membership Corporation (EMC), based in Jasper, Ga., recently selected McLean Engineering Company to develop a Long-Range Plan and a Construction Work Plan and conduct a system sectionalizing study.

McLean Engineering will work with the EMC’s staff to develop a multi-year plan for the construction of the EMC’s electric system, including distribution and substation planning based on the existing Milsoft model of the Corporation’s system.

This effort will provide the utility roadmaps for both short-range and long-range construction planning. Following the completion of the planning studies, McLean staff will perform a sectionalizing study, using Amicalola EMC's system model to coordinate substation and line devices in an effort to minimize outages and maximize system safety and reliability.

About Amicalola Electric Membership Corporation
On December 12, 1939, nine rural electric pioneers met next door to the Pickens County Courthouse to form a new electric membership corporation (EMC) to serve areas in Gilmer, Pickens, Cherokee, Dawson and Lumpkin Counties. Because of this action and the dedication of these local leaders, Amicalola Electric Membership Corporation was born on February 10, 1940. The first electrification for Pickens, Gilmer and Cherokee Counties -- 25 miles of power lines and 90 members -- came in late April 1941. Today, Amicalola EMC provides electricity through 5,678 miles of line to approximately 42,078 members which have approximately 49,947 meters. To learn more, visit amicalolaemc.com.
